Ignition Interlocks and Alcohol Problems

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

There was a story recently about an Ohio woman who got pulled over a DUI on her way to another DUI hearing. Of course, it’s a story that gets much ridicule and from a standpoint it is pretty ridiculous.

However, when I hear of stories like this, I can’t help but think about how sad it is. This woman must have a severe drug or alcohol problem and it seems like she needs to get some serious help.

Even though her arrest has been reported by media outlets, she isn’t the only one struggling with alcohol or drug abuse. For online sobriety resources, here are some helpful suggestions on where to start. If you’re interested in using an ignition interlock to assist with your alcohol issues, make an appointment to get one installed today!

David Arquette – 100 Days Sober

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Whereas I do think our culture is a little obsessed with celebrity, I do think it’s interesting that today everyone has been talking about David Arquette. Today, he tweeted he has reached 100 days of sobriety.

Whether it is the public’s business or not, reaching 100 days of sobriety is very difficult and should be rewarded in some way. For tips and pointers, check out my post from yesterday. I listed some online resources to help you deal with the hardships of recovery and sobriety.

Of course, we will never know the individual struggles one has to go through to deal with recovery. However, if one is willing to tweet about it, maybe we can give him or her a congratulations.

Online Sobriety Resources

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

A lot of people use ignition interlocks to help in the recovery process if they are having issues with alcohol. It forces you to get in the habit of not driving after drinking. Furthermore, because an ignition interlock monitors if you’ve been drinking, the information it collects can be used for the recovery process.

Of course, this is going to be challenging and stressful. It’s hard to break a habit. If you don’t know where to begin, here’s a list of sites that provide information and support.

Women for Sobriety – Like its name says, this site focuses on helping women overcome addiction, using their “New Life” program.  It has chat rooms and a store where you can buy literature (books, booklets, workbooks), stationary, affirmation cards, plus audio CDs that range from a variety of topics.

12Step.org – This site is also part-directory for other sites that help with addiction and recovery.  You can also download a program called “Recovery Journal” for free.

Secular Organizations for Sobriety – For people who do not feel comfortable with the spiritual components of sobriety programs, this site has a directory where you can find secular sobriety meetings and resources. Although the site is run by the Center for Inquiry in Los Angeles, you can search for nationwide meetings.

SobrietyLive.com – This is a social networking site for people who are or trying to get sober. Like other social networking sites, you can chat, talk in forums, look for local events, and join groups. The founder of the site, Tony U, wants this site to be a resource to take the dullness out of recovery and help people stay motivated and excited.

AAGrapevine.orgAA.org is the official Alcohol Anonymous website, but AA also runs this site, which is a journal written and edited by AA members. You even have the opportunity to submit your own work.

Of course, if you know of any other sites or resources, feel free to share them below!
