Failure to Install an Ignition Interlock (New Jersey)

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

If you are required to install an ignition interlock as a result of a DUI charge, trust me when I say it would be best to take care of it right away. Even if after this whole incident, you promise to yourself to be a safer driver, don’t run the risk of even the smallest chance of getting in trouble for not installing an ignition interlock.

What can happen if you don’t install an ignition interlock?

You can lose your license up to one year in addition to any other license suspension or revocation you may have received for another issue.

Don’t run the risk of getting into an even deeper mess by not installing an ignition interlock if you are required to do so. Many ignition interlock companies try to make this process as worry-free as possible. Smart Start of New Jersey strives to make this process as easy as possible. They show you how to use the breathalyzer and easily set up appointments for your calibrations. If you’re in need of an ignition interlock, contact Smart Start of New Jersey today.

Senator Frank Lautenberg Rallies for National Ignition Interlock Law

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Senator Lautenberg has joined forces with Senator Tom Udall to introduce a national legislation that requires an ignition interlock device for all convicted drunk drivers. This national law resembles New Mexico’s current law which is said to have reduced alcohol-related road deaths by 35%.

In New Jersey, anyone with a high BAC level at the time of arrest or anyone who is a repeat offender is required to install an ignition interlock. Currently, the National Conference of State Legislatures says that 48 states have some type of ignition interlock law.

While many committees are trying to figure out the loopholes in this potential law, a national ignition interlock regulation has the support of MADD, which has major influence over voters.
